What is Scrum? The Simple Way to Manage Projects

What is Scrum?

Scrum is a way of working as a team to complete large projects by breaking them into small, manageable parts. Instead of trying to do everything at once, the team works in short cycles called sprints, which usually last a few weeks. At the end of each sprint, something functional is delivered, even if it’s just a part of the whole project.

Why use Scrum?

  • It’s flexible: If ideas or requirements change, you can adjust the work easily.

  • It encourages teamwork: Everyone communicates often to know what others are doing and to help each other.

  • It delivers results quickly: Every short period, you have something ready to show and improve.

  • Continuous improvement: The team always looks for ways to do things better in the next sprint.

Who is involved in Scrum?

  • Product Owner: This person knows what the client wants and decides what’s most important to do first.

  • Scrum Master: Like a guide, this person helps the team follow the Scrum process and solve problems.

  • Development Team: These are the people who do the technical work like coding, designing, and testing.

How does Scrum work?

  • Planning: The team decides which tasks to complete in the next sprint.

  • Daily meeting: Everyone gets together briefly each day to share what they did, what they’ll do, and any problems they have.

  • Review: At the end of the sprint, the team shows what they built to get feedback and improve.

  • Retrospective: The team discusses what went well and what they can do better next time.
